Burlap Party with Southern Hospitality...

Okay, so I have all of this burlap that I purchased and all of these ideas and wham! Nothing! At least not yet BUT I have a ton of ideas so I am sharing those...influenced by Rhoda over at Southern Hospitality, I HAD to get in on her oh so hip P-A-R-T-Y somehow!

  •  I thought I would take some old lamps that I have and do a fun weave of burlap or jute webbing over the shades that are now in disrepair and seem almost impossible to find the shades to fit the frame. Although now that I am looking at Rhoda's, I am kind of liking the monogram idea. Hmmmm...??

  • Pillows, pillows,pillows...and MORE pillows! Yup, seems to be the thing to do with burlap these days. From BHG to Country Living to Etsy, these decorative pieces are popping up all over the place and in all sorts of styles. This primitive pillow with a modern, Southern touch was handcrafted by Brick Walls.

  • A million uses for coffee sacks. I bought a few last week during my garage sale excursions (See "Sweetness" post).  I will use a few for runners on my sideboard-eventually. Some of them I also plan to use to make some market totes for friends.  This fabulous litte bag is from a fellow Etsy-er, Catfluff. Check them out!

So next week, HOPEFULLY, I can get ONE of my burlap projects completed and show them off!
Wish me luck! Until then...

My Favorite Color is Green

Okay, so did I tell you that green is my favorite color? Well, it is...and I am not talking that mean, ugly and oh so distasteful forest icky from the 80's green. I am talking that funky, out loud, right in your face chartreuse green, an olive green or even a Kermit the Frog green! (Did I just say Kermit the Frog?)

Anyhow, someday I will be able to show you how I have used green accents to add drama in my OWN home but until then, here are some lovelies to inspire the green-loving femme in us all!

Look at this sofa with PINK, yes, PINK welting accents. Whose idea was this? Just love the folks over at BHG! Can I get a home makeover? Everything in this room screams "Y-U-M-M-Y!"

I absolutely LOVE this piece. I think I may have to steal this idea when we move into my dream home! Absolutely fabulous!

And that GREEN guy that we all love...you got it-Kermit! Isn't he adorable?

p.s. What have you done with green in your wardrobe, home, etc.?

Sweeeetness!

Okay, so I feel like it's been forever since I lifted a hand to paint, sand, or refinish anything. Shows always WEAR ME OUT! I thought taking a bit of a break would be nice but I think it's time to get back to work so I headed out Thursday, Friday AND Saturday of this week (with kids in TOW mind you since hubby was out of town) to find more great stuff. Some of it will get refinished for Me & My House...(I really mean MY house) and some of it will go into my next show...take a look-see at my finds...I just can't get enough!

I got all of this Friday and Saturday...the kids loved hanging out too, believe it or not! They even bought a few things for themselves...it looks like I spent a lot of money...guess what, I DIDN'T!

Love this desk that someone spray painted gold. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I am already dreamin' up the colors and finish I want to use...what do you think?

This was the cutest little stool that is actually a reproduction piece, but you would never know. Too cute!

A few frames I am goingt to turn into chalkboard, memo board or something...who knows?
So, the lady that I bought these HUGE frames from was about to THROW THEM OUT! Can you believe that? Are you ready for this? They were only $10 for BOTH OF THEM! Steal!

An amazing bench that I am going to give a few coats of a few different colors of paints and distress, glaze, etc...I think this one is going to stay with me! I love it!

Okay, so those are my finds for this week/weekend...I must say, I racked up this time and I managed to not break the bank...honestly, I never do!

Thanks to Rhoda over at Southern Hospitality for inviting all of us to join in on Today's Thrifty Treasures. She hosts this fabulous finds party every Monday...it's been so much fun sharing. If you've got something to share with all of us junkin' addicts hop on over to her blog and add your name to the list...we'd love to see your finds!

Hello, are you there?

I am...indeed! I have been M.I.A. for just a minute with sick kiddos and busy schedules but tomorrow is a new day and boy am I happy about it! I don't have a digital camera right now (hubby took with him on a hiking/camping trip) but tomorrow I will be posting all sorts of fabulous finds from this week's excursions...prompted by my friend Rhoda over at Southern Hospitality.

If you haven't checked out her blog yet, check it out and make yourself right at home. And, just in case you can't get enough of Rhoda, she'll be sharing some of her greatness right over here at Me & My House in a couple of weeks as our first guest blogger...the anticipation is rising!

Until tomorrow...

It's Freeaaaakkky Friday!

Happy First Freaky Friday!
Here are just a few BEFORE and AFTERS to get your gears turning...

Amanda's vintage shelf was a wreck BEFORE...

But AFTER she worked her magic it added just the right touch to her home!

And here's Angie's "curb alert" find...it was in need of some major overhaulin'...

Absolutely stunning after...

Keep the great finds, re-dos and revamps coming...I love it! Have a fun and safe weekend!

Better than a Box of Chocolates

Goody, goody gumdrops...!
I was at a friend's house this past weekend and just before I left she says, "Oh! I have something I think you will like!" Do you know what is was? TWO...yes, TWO boxes full of discontinued fabric samples and she wanted me to have them ALL! Can you believe that? I was elated! (Well, I was more than elated...I was LITERALLY salivating all over them, of course, just so no one else would snatch them up. Ha!) As I went through each box, I became more and more excited about the endless possibilities and potential these squares offered. It was absolutely amazing!

Here's my just a few of my goodies. They are SO yummy!

So then, of course, the wheels in my brain began to turn (quite squeeky and slowly BUT they were turning-LOL!) and I started searching the net for ideas of projects to make my little scraps of fabric one of a kind and a treasure for my home and possibly for others.

Here's just a few ideas I came up with:
-Pillows
-Totes and handbags
-Reusable shopping bags
-Bed quilt or crib quilt
-Embellishments for scrapbooking
-Yoga Mat/Bag
-Sachets
-Drawer Liners
AND THE LIST GOES ON...
Not only am I now on a search for more and more fabric samples I am dreaming about them...no seriously, I really am.

And it just got better...
The  next day (Saturday) was the Super Garage Sale & Craft Fair. It's held four times per year here on Oahu and boasts over 100 crafters and other ware sellers. Me & My House has participated as a vendor  in this show in the past but, since I am always "manning" my booth, I never get to SHOP and always feel like I miss out on all the good stuff! Soooo, this Spring I decided to take a break and shop. Boy, am I glad I did! I found some awesome pieces as you can see...

Here are my sweet finds...much of it is what most would consider junk but hey, you know what they say (sing it with me)..."One person's trash is another's treasure." That coudn't be more true for me! A great planter, a sweet ladder back chair and SCORE:two retro chairs that need to be "Me & My House-i-fied"...hee, hee!

I am loving this chippy old bowl...I think I am going to use it for lavendar and some other herbs as well as the old worn out planter behind it.

Who knows how I will transform and repurpose these pieces...guess you will just have to wait.....and.....see!

Freaky Friday...Calling All Before and After Projects!!!

Okay, so here's what I would like to do...

Each Friday (beginning next Friday), I would like to share before and after projects from followers, readers and friends. If you have some projects you have been waiting to show off, send them my way...I will post them and you'll be delighted to see what people have to say about your creative talents. For right now, I am calling it "Freaky Friday" until I can think of a better name...why freaky? 'Cause if you're like me, some of your finds are pretty "freaky" until you work your magic!

If you don't revamp furniture, then feel free to send clothing that you have repurposed too...I believe that would add an interesting dimension to the postings.  Recycling, upcycling, repurposed...we want it all!

BEFORE...a tattered, torn and unloved piece.

And AFTER...a stunning show piece!
Blue Nightstand

So, come on! Send me your good stuff! (menmyhouse@gmail.com) I am waiting...

Well, Fancy That...Our First Award!

We won an award! Thanks sooooooo much, Kathy, for thinking so much of us to nominate Me & My House for a blogger award...I am just so flattered! Really, I am and I am even more happy to know that my blog has inspired you in some way...now, THAT is something to smile about. When you get a chance, be sure to visit Kathy blog, Sylvia's Vintage Daughter at www.sylviasvintagedaughter.blogspot.com. She's such a fun, funky and inspiring "junk" lady! She's my kinda gal! Hee, hee! You can also see more of how she uses all of her finds at Junkmarket Style.

Now it is my turn to nominate 7 people for a Blogger Award, as the rules are... and I copy:
The official rules are as follows:
1. Copy the award to your site
2. Link to the person from whom you received the award
3. Nominate 7 other bloggers
4. Link to those on your blog
5. Leave a message on the blogs you nominated.

So, here are the 7 things I love...
1. Warm, breezy Hawaiian nights with a full moon. Absolutely priceless.

2. My husband. He is, hands down, the best and a blessing to have in our lives.

3. My children. They are absolutely, totally, undeniably the cutest, happiest, funniest, most obedient kids to EVER walk the face of the Earth. Seriously, do you know children more cute? (Well, maybe your own but if you don't have any...do you? Seriously? LOL!)

4. Junk. Surprise! Well, of course I do! I like the smell of it, the taste of it (yes, I have licked a few pieces-LOL!), the look of it and most of all the cost of it! Like it even more when it's FREE! Which leads me to my next favorite....

5. FREE. Who doesn't love a good deal and when you don't have to pay for it, for some reason, it makes it all that much better.

6. Paint. Fabrics. Color...and just about anything else that will allow me to craft new creations. I love fabrics, especially I think, and when combined with the right paint color to set off that project, well, sometimes the right combos just bring tears to my eyes (Seriuosly, I have created a few pieces that I have cried over mainly 'cause I feel so blessed to have the creative gene God has given me...absolutely a blessing!) .

7. Oh no! Do I have to stop now? I was just getting started...I guess the last thing that I love is family and memories. (Does that count as two?) I just love reminiscing, spending time with extended family and making new memories for my own family and even carrying out those traditions passed down...leave a legacy...that's what we want to do for our kids...leave a legacy.

So, there's a few things that I love...just a little snippet. This was fun! Thanks, again, Kathy!

Okay, so here are my choices for the Kreativ Blogger Award...it wasn't easy. These are just a FEW of my favorites!

1. Cindy www.skiptomylou.org
2. Taryn www.lovetaryn.blogspot.com
3. Kimba www.asoftplacetoland-kimba.blogspot.com
4. Lindy www.themommydesigner.blogspot.com
5. La Te Da www.latedalove.blogspot.com
6. Beth www.thegypsyfish.blogspot.com
7. Kinzie www.kinzieskreations.blogspot.com

So, I am breaking the rules but I have to add just TWO MORE!!!

8. Barn House www.barnhousebh.blogspot.com
9. Queen of Tarte www.queenoftarte.blogspot.com

I JUST COULD NOT LEAVE THESE LADIES OFF! THEY ROCK way too hard!

And nooowwww for the show...

With all the running around this weekend I haven't had time to post any news about this past weekend's show...it was great! I met lots of new and fabulous people and even got a sunburn! Ha! Turns out my tent only kept my furniture shaded as I was too busy running my mouth talking to anyone who came near...it was so much fun!

And it wouldn't have been the same without my girl Angie from CraftyLaine...thanks for keeping me company, Ang, and letting me rattle off in the low moments...you rock! You canvisit Angie and see all of her crafty goodies at www.craftylaine.com.
I had so much fun making these letters and the desk is one of my favorite pieces from the show. All in all, it was a great show...I made some new friends and best of all, Me & My House pieces are now featured in Plantation Home (A home decor boutique) in Kapolei, HI. Yay! We are so happy about the partnership with them and look forward to many sales! Hee, hee!
