picking fabrics

Likely the biggest part (and expense) of revamping our TV room is to address our window coverings.  I loved your suggestions on how to get some privacy in that room. But for a variety of reasons - from not being a look/style I liked (I'm quite particular) to more logistical reasons like we couldn't install a ceiling mounted hardware because the ceiling is sloped - none of the ideas evolved into a solution. It's really a hard room. Because no one over here could come to a decision, I reached out to Janine from Tonic Living and asked her opinion. She gave me some great guidance - although she said we could do drapery much like in our living room it wasn't going to be without issue so my gut said to go with roman blinds.

The Trouble Spot and Commitment

Well, at least ONE of them! For those of you waiting, I am still working on the dresser and a few other furniture projects around the house.

I've also decided that I am done with our dining area and how absolutely boring it is so I want to start the process of putting the "RHI stamp" on it.

With so many things on my to do list, I have GOT to start prioritizing things around here so that I can actually get some projects around our own home completed.

I want to keep my word with you all so I'm working hard to get the faux finish tutorial up for you. I promise it'll be worth the wait! But, in the meantime, I kinda need your help.

Most of you know after reading this, that we are in a rental home. It took almost an entire year for me to settle with that and decide to begin making this house of ours, no matter how temporary, a home.

The next couple of months or so I would like to focus my energy on this space...

That would be our cute little sweet pea doing her homework as I snapped away!

It's our dining area. And, well, it's a little sad. I want it to be "happy" and to really express who we are as a family. The challenge, of course, is that it's technically not our home. I've thought of so many amazing ideas to make this a better place for all of us none of which exclude moving a wall or knocking something out of the way.

I also have issues when it comes to decorating my own home. Seems I can never commit. Ask me to help someone else design or decorate a space, I'm on it. Ideas flow freely. My space? Cricket, cricket.

So, as you can see, it's pretty much a blank canvas and the wall colors are neutral which I feel is a good thing but I'd love to make that wall (that one right there) a focal wall and perhaps even do a decorative paint technique, stencil or just paint it a different color altogether.

Our living space, which is directly behind this area is quite neutral with brown, tans, hues of blues and grays. (I know, exciting) Honestly, I love that space. You can see it here. But, in our dining area I want it to be cohesive with the living space but I'd love to pull in a different color.

I love this print from fabric.com. I thought I could use this for new panels on the windows and start there.

But, I also love this one...

But I know that this one blends in with the wall color way too much.

Then, there's this one...
Magnolia Home Fashions Java Ikat Spa

I kinda actually REALLY love this one. It's ALMOST perfect.

Can you see my problem now? Commitment. I just can't seem to commit to any one idea for this space. Ultimately, within the next couple of weeks I will decide on a fabric for the panels, choose to paint or not and decide on what will go on that focal wall.

All of those decisions would be easier if you could help me! Pretty, please? With a cherry on top?
Which fabric choice do you think would look best in the space and what are your ideas for THAT wall? That big, blank wall.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Suzanne Rheinstein's Ikat for Lee Jofa

For those of you that think I get a lot done in our house, I'd like to let you know that the two frames in our living room are still hanging with nothing in them, and I'm still struggling with art for above the console. I'm one of those people that likes to wait for the right thing, instead of buying things to just fill a space. The end result is, that our house is taking time to come together. It also is partially due to budget. We don't have tons of cash to throw at a room, so every so often we invest in something. The result is, that we have rooms that are decorated with pieces we love.

One thing I would like is pillows for our couch. Truthfull they aren't necessary, but something I would enjoy and I think add some nice layering to the room . I've struggled to find ones that would work with these lovelies on my chairs. And I think the ones that would work are the ones in the background here...

Yes. I took a picture of the TV Show Million Dollar Decorators. Aubrey thought I was taking a picture of Ross and laughed at me. And I informed him I was actually more smitten with the pillows. fast forward to last week and I was sorting through old Magazines and came across Michael Penney's Living Room and BAM! He had pillows. So I hopped over to his blog and found these photos...

Turns out it is Suzanne Rheinstein's Ikat for Lee Jofa. Which means, um. Pricey. But I'm kind of obsessed. So if you know how I can buy the fabric, or see pre made pillows of it out there, let me know. Because I think they need to be in my house. Well. Maybe. I'm not sure how much it would cost. But aren't they divine?! So obsessed.

In Love with Turk

Okay, in my search to find the PERFECT fabric and colors for my refinishing projects, I have stumbled upon a woman. A designer. A maven, in her own right, whose work is absolutely stunning! Her name? Trina Turk! Many of you may be familiar with her work in the fashion industry but Turk is turning out new and exciting things in interior design.

Turk's vibrant prints and classic styles with a hint of mod and a pop of retro keep most of her fans begging for more. (And now, this would include moi)

"Sprucing" up with Turk...
While searching for more Trina Turk I found some designers who are in love with her fab prints too! The shop? Spruce Home. The place? Austin, TX and well, Etsy too! Spruce mixes vintage textiles and colorful patterns to create unique and eclectic pieces for your home or commercial space.

This sofa is to die for and the color choices are absolutely magnificent: cocoa brown and deep red. Love it!

OH! And I almost forgot this wonderful work of art from Spruce. These ladies are TRULY talented. Hats off...
Appropriately named "Constellation". Absolutely amazing work.

Check them out at www.spruceaustin.com to learn more about their creative designs or you can shop them at http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5621929.

In all this, my search continues...wish me luck!

P.S. Happy Earth Day!
