Main Monday

Finally coming out of hiding after quite a full summer!  From here on out, Mondays around here will be known as Main Mondays. Most of you, I am sure, have heard of Joss and Main. And, if you haven't, Joss and Main is an online home décor shop offering flash sales and discounts on many hard to find items for home and life.

I just happen to love all the different varieties of products they offer so I decided what other better way to share my finds than right here on the RHI blog!

Starting off with a  few of my faves offered this week on the site:

Japala Jute Pouf
$192.95
Three piece set of galvanized French Inspired buckets
$27.00

Astor Arm Chair
$293.95

Charlotte Chandelier
$117.95

Milla Rug
$55.95
Caroline Settee
$455.95

And these are just a few of my faves from Joss and Main! Hurry over and find some of your own before the flash is over! Fortunately...there's always more!

Happy Monday!

The Trouble Spot and Commitment

Well, at least ONE of them! For those of you waiting, I am still working on the dresser and a few other furniture projects around the house.

I've also decided that I am done with our dining area and how absolutely boring it is so I want to start the process of putting the "RHI stamp" on it.

With so many things on my to do list, I have GOT to start prioritizing things around here so that I can actually get some projects around our own home completed.

I want to keep my word with you all so I'm working hard to get the faux finish tutorial up for you. I promise it'll be worth the wait! But, in the meantime, I kinda need your help.

Most of you know after reading this, that we are in a rental home. It took almost an entire year for me to settle with that and decide to begin making this house of ours, no matter how temporary, a home.

The next couple of months or so I would like to focus my energy on this space...

That would be our cute little sweet pea doing her homework as I snapped away!

It's our dining area. And, well, it's a little sad. I want it to be "happy" and to really express who we are as a family. The challenge, of course, is that it's technically not our home. I've thought of so many amazing ideas to make this a better place for all of us none of which exclude moving a wall or knocking something out of the way.

I also have issues when it comes to decorating my own home. Seems I can never commit. Ask me to help someone else design or decorate a space, I'm on it. Ideas flow freely. My space? Cricket, cricket.

So, as you can see, it's pretty much a blank canvas and the wall colors are neutral which I feel is a good thing but I'd love to make that wall (that one right there) a focal wall and perhaps even do a decorative paint technique, stencil or just paint it a different color altogether.

Our living space, which is directly behind this area is quite neutral with brown, tans, hues of blues and grays. (I know, exciting) Honestly, I love that space. You can see it here. But, in our dining area I want it to be cohesive with the living space but I'd love to pull in a different color.

I love this print from fabric.com. I thought I could use this for new panels on the windows and start there.

But, I also love this one...
Magnolia Home Fashions Java Ikat Umber

But I know that this one blends in with the wall color way too much.

Then, there's this one...
Magnolia Home Fashions Java Ikat Spa

I kinda actually REALLY love this one. It's ALMOST perfect.

Can you see my problem now? Commitment. I just can't seem to commit to any one idea for this space. Ultimately, within the next couple of weeks I will decide on a fabric for the panels, choose to paint or not and decide on what will go on that focal wall.

All of those decisions would be easier if you could help me! Pretty, please? With a cherry on top?
Which fabric choice do you think would look best in the space and what are your ideas for THAT wall? That big, blank wall.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Sweet Redo and a Package in the Mail

OMG! Tomorrow's the big day! I am nervous. So. Nervous.

I can't really put my finger on it but I have never felt this way. Not even when putting together my pieces for a show.

Of course, there's all the last minute to-dos. Sand a little more here. Paint a little more there. Add some wax everywhere...

Anyhow, as requested, here's a pic of the very last piece I finished to get ready for me spot. I think it turned out scrum-diddly-umptious!

Granted, this dresser wasn't exactly the worst I've refinished but it was pretty dated and needed a few small repairs. Good thing I was there to rescue it from sure disaster.

AFTER

I just love the way it came out. Truly a traditional piece which is kinda the way I am going with my space in this season.

I really am becoming a huge fan of the AS Graphite. Sometimes it looks blue. Sometimes gray. Sometimes black. Always pretty though.

And I got this in the mail today. I was so excited and praying that it would come before I moved all of my pieces into the store. I didn't get a pic of it but it's a custom stamp from here. I love it. On top of the uber quick ordering process, they sent me some letterpress thank you notes with my sweet little package. Talk about a repeat customer. I. Totally. Am.

So simple and totally speaks to my personal and design style.

Okay, hope you enjoyed more sneak peeks...more pics over the weekend so come back often, leave some encouraging words, love, whatevs...just let me know you're out there! *deep breath*

All 'Jacked' Up...

Okay, so I said I would never do it but I caved. I fell into the trap. I painted a Union Jack piece!
Now, I can't say that I loved painting this piece at the beginning. I searched all over for a tutorial and no one really gave full detail (and now I know why) of how to paint this design.

Now, I know you all are thinking, "What's so hard about painting some stripes and lines?" Well, it's not as easy as you'd think especially when you're like me and just want to GIT ER DONE!

I guess if I'd really thought out the process of laying the tape from the beginning, it would've been a whole lot easier!

But, alas, I did not. This baby took me two days to fully paint and tape and another couple of days to wax and finish. Now, granted, I AM doing this in the midst of some massive sleep deprivation thanks to our new, sweet little one.

I am, however, in love with it. And, I am so much more appreciative of the time, talent and skill it takes to accomplish this look.

And one more confession...I think I am addicted to painting them now so don't be surprised if you see them popping up on more of my pieces!

I will have to post of tutorial for this when I attempt my second piece. Until then, enjoy my "mess up" photos...

I went from this...

To this...

To this...
Table before wax

And voila!
