That's Maddie, enjoying the dog bed I sewed for her this weekend. It was super easy to make and suits my taste (and budget) much better than dog beds I've seen online and in stores. This was my first time working with piping and I love how it "finishes" the look (I watched a few unintentionally funny YouTube tutorials first - like this one - but I purchased, not made, my piping).

In terms of steps, I sewed the piping onto my striped fabric first, then sewed my two fabric pieces together (you may have noticed that the bottom is leftover fabric from my slipcover project). I left a small opening on one side so I could stuff the bed and then finished it by hand. The stuffing is completely washable, so the whole thing can be periodically tossed in the wash (an obvious must).

In other news, Adam is home! It's so true that absence makes the heart grow fonder - we even happily survived a Costco shopping trip yesterday (Adam and shopping usually don't mix haha). So, what did you get up to this weekend?

Sunday was the Santa Claus parade in Toronto, which means in our house, that the Holiday Season is now officially open. We went to my parents to watch the parade (which my Dad had taped) and did the usual Stephenson Family traditions to mark the special occasion. I had tried to take more "festive" photos but we have a child that has a molar coming in. He's so unhappy - but I managed to get one shot of the little guy on my lap, in a moment of happiness. And so now, the boxes of decorations will come out of storage, and I won't feel weird about listening to Christmas music in the house. :) Do you have an official date that you consider the start to the holidays?

• We went looking at fridges for research on Wednesday. Can I tell you something? Fridges are EXPENSIVE. Well, maybe it's more like "Lindsay has expensive taste". (That would likely be more accurate.)
• Dear Design Gods, I want this house. Maybe because they also have my Lee Jofa Fabric on the couch!
• Um, on that note - I still can't find that Lee Jofa Fabric to buy. So bummed. (Any more tips? I just really love that particular print)
• Canadian Tire asked me to be a part of their Holiday Decor Crew. Can't wait to share it.

Okay, so last week I slipped in a quick post as I frantically prepared for a Holiday Open House on Friday. It's been an amazing week and I can now finally sit down for a few moments and share the finished pieces with you that I gave sneek peeks of last week!

Overall, things went great! I met a ton of awesome mom-preneurs and biz owners and sold all of the bigger pieces that I took with me and a couple of smaller items. 

My pictures weren't the best. For some reason, I felt a little frazzled when I got there and that's when I was snapping most of the shots. I wanted to take them before things began just in case people decided to take things away as they shopped.

Just in case you forgot, let me just give you a reminder of what this beautiful little space looked like BEFORE...

It's okay you can cry...it's like a pic right out of a horror movie, right? 

Moving right along...

I really do like the way this one turned out...can't find my BEFORE pics. Again. I have to get organized a bit better around here but I LOVE the story that goes along with this. Purchased it from a couple who'd owned it since they were kids but needed some love just like most pieces we all pick up. 

It has now found a loving home with a sweet new friend who felt the need to "treat" herself! I love it!

Then, there was this desk. So sweet. The perfect size for a small office or a kid's bedroom. Both of these pieces sold fairly quickly. I love the AS Cream color and how it works with the natural finish of the top of the desk...really yummy. 

.A bit of crumpled, shredded music sheet paper and some coasters for the stocking. Sweet. 

Hydrangeas. Anyone else infatuated? These are my favorite flowers and THIS is what they look like dried! Amazing! A bit of willow to add some texture and it's like Heaven!



I think these may have been my favorite pieces. They didn't sell...surprised but kinda relieved. I love them. Unfortunately, I don't need them nor do we have space so they must find another home! 


Overall, it was a great, great, great event and I had so much fun getting to know some people, meet some new clients and make some new friends.

Although we're going to do a bathroom reno in the new year we've recently made inexpensive improvements that have made a lot of difference to how our small bathroom functions. I've loved the changes so much that we'll carry through the ideas to the new washroom. First up - Hooks.

I'm not sure if people still install these towel bars [Image 2] but I find them so ackward. You can't just casually hang your towel on one - and if it's wet and you put it back on this bar, it likely won't dry. But for the past three years we've had no where to hang our towels. We could have installed hooks in the washroom iteself - for example, on the back of the washroom door, but it would have been a lot of visual clutter for a small bathroom.

Inspired by the Elmwood Spa, where in their shower stalls they have hooks for your robe, I had Aub install two hooks in our shower stall. There is something nice about showering, and having your towel right there waiting for you. When I'm done, I rehang it in the stall. The hooks are nice for a few reasons. 1. Hooks are easier to hang towels on, than the bars 2. The hooks are behind the shower curtain which means when you're in the washroom and the shower curtain is closed, they aren't seen. Less visual clutter. The hooks are high enough on the wall that they don't get sprayed while you're showering.
